Neil Karande
Born Clevedon 1960 & taught piano from the age 7 with a little old lady who lived with my Gran, then by Richard Graves in Weston-Super-Mare, and then onto King's College Taunton. I progressed up the grades but never really enjoyed it until I was 16 and started to play music I liked. I often played in Music Festivals and hated every second of it. It put me off live playing for many years.
I finished studying Grade 6 at 15 when my family moved to Torquay where I started to play my sisters Spanish guitar and soon after, bought a Woolworths Electric Guitar for £10 which could only be tuned to use bar chords. Along with my parents old valve stereogram as an amp, discovered a love of 12 bar blues at 110 decibels as the amp distorted beautifully. Built my own effects pedals - Fuzz box and flange/chorus pedal but eventually bought a BOSS Combo Amp as my father was worried about the structural integrity of the upper floors whilst we were playing. Interestingly, he didn't complain about hours on end of Quo covers etc. Most of this was done with my good school friend Andy and we still jam now and then.
I played guitar quite often at Plymouth Poly in early 80's along with a couple of guys I shared a house with and developed a healthy respect for Punk and New Wave, especially the Cure. Duncan played the bass and I played rhythm and we would often have the whole house rocking to Fire in Cairo & Killing an Arab.
I bought my first digital piano, Yamaha Clavinova, in 1989 and never looked back. I had midi boxes everywhere and the sound was excellent. We started a band at work but shortly afterwards, my first child came along, and I ended up working twice as hard for half the pay and only now, 12 years later have I started to play again.
Thanks to my Sister and my Brother in law drummer "Jon", we recreated Darkside of the Moon in 2007 using my old 1989 Clavinova as a midi stage piano feeding a virtual Korg Wavestation on my laptop. This was so good, we've kept the core of the band acquired a good bass player and have expanded our repertoire to where we are now. Where we go from now doesn't matter, I'm just enjoying the ride!

Steve Munns, Bass Guitar
My first bass came from a second-hand shop in the Lanes at Brighton when I was 14. Taught myself by playing along to early Pink Floyd songs. Joined my first proper band at 18 when I met a couple of other budding musicians at the Ordnance Survey in Southampton. Having got the "bug", I quickly started moving up the ladder, and was eventually asked to join a band called Refugee, who were (at the time) the best Rock band in the Southampton area. We even used to regularly fill two large coaches with our fans for gigs along the south coast and London. A sad, but true claim to fame, we supported Slade in 1979 . . and a very nice bunch of lads they were.
Most of my previous bands have been mentioned in a book charting the history of a famous pub venue called The Joiners Arms in Southampton. Even bands like Muse have played there.
Gave up gigging after I got married, and had a long lay-off . . but have happily "seen the light" again.
I've also recently recorded two concept albums of completely original work with a band called Möbius Strip who also reached number 14 in the Classic Rock MySpace UK national music chart with over 40,000 downloads.
Equipment: Warwick Corvette Active Bass (swamp ash body, masses of sustain) through Ashdown 300w Combo with additional 1x15 cab. Used to have a 70's Precision Bass running through an Ampeg rig, but had to sell it all when I couldn't pay the rent . . have always regretted that, but c'est la vie.
Loves: Tolkien, my Harley, Orlando Florida, Rollercoasters, Power Kites, Peanut Butter, Music and all my wonderful friends and family
Hates: Wet manhole covers on bends in the road, Ironing and Bad Manners (and I don't mean the band)
Ambition: to make people smile
Motto: don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened . . .
